Alvernia University has named Kenny Arentz as head women's wrestling coach, director of athletics Cory Beddick announced Thursday.

Arentz comes to Alvernia after six years with the Governor Mifflin girls wrestling program, including the past four as head coach. He has been involved with the Governor Mifflin wrestling program since 2014, splitting time between the boys and girls programs. He began as a volunteer assistant with the boys team before helping launch the girls program from the ground up and eventually taking over as head coach.

During his tenure leading the girls program, Governor Mifflin sent two wrestlers to the PIAA state tournament and produced one state medalist. Before the PIAA sanctioned girls wrestling, Arentz developed and coached eight state medalists. He also built relationships throughout the region through his work with the Steel Mat wrestling club.

A Reading native and Governor Mifflin graduate, Arentz earned a state medal and recorded 126 wins during his high school career. He began his college career at York College before transferring to Penn State Berks, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.

Arentz gets to work immediately. Alvernia opens its season Nov. 1 at the ESU Open at East Stroudsburg.
