Iowa's Larramendy wins gold at Rankings Series event in Hungary

Iowa wrestler Reese Larramendy won a gold medal on day three of the 2026 Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial, leading a trio of U.S. medalists at the event in Budapest, Hungary.

Larramendy defeated fellow American Jennifer Page in the 65-kilogram final, while Abigail Nette narrowly fell in the 59 kilograms gold-medal match.

Larramendy wasted no time in the championship bout, scoring a takedown just 15 seconds in to take a 2-0 lead. A tactical stalemate over the ensuing minutes put Page on the clock, and a passivity point gave Larramendy a 3-0 advantage at intermission. Page opened the second period with a push-out point, but Larramendy responded with a scramble shortly after to extend the lead to 5-1 before closing out a 7-1 victory with one final takedown.

The gold for Larramendy and silver for Page mark the first international medals of the year for both U.S. wrestlers.

Larramendy is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of Iowa women's wrestling. She was the 2024 NCWWC national champion and a three-time All-American for the Hawkeyes, also placing third in 2025. At the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships in March 2026, Larramendy entered as the No. 1 seed at 145 pounds but fell to North Central's Bella Mir in the finals, finishing as the national runner-up.
