Buschow hired to lead Nebraska Wesleyan
Nebraska Wesleyan University has hired Dylan Buschow, who spent the last five seasons on the coaching staff at Southwest Minnesota State University, most recently as head assistant wrestling coach, as the next head coach of the Prairie Wolves wrestling program, Director of Athletics Dwight Merilatt announced Friday.
"Dylan Buschow is a great addition to our athletic staff at Nebraska Wesleyan," Merilatt said. "I know he will do a tremendous job guiding our wrestling program and I'm excited for the future under his leadership. He is a tireless worker and knows what it takes to recruit and build a competitive program in the American Rivers Conference."
Since 2021, Buschow has worked closely with all facets of the Mustang wrestling program, helping Caden Steffen earn his second NCAA Division II All-America honor, and he has mentored 18 NWCA Scholar All-Americans across his five seasons in Marshall.
"I'm honored to lead the Nebraska Wesleyan Wrestling program, and I am grateful for Athletic Director Dwight Merilatt, and everyone involved in this search for believing in my vision," Buschow said. "This is an opportunity I don't take lightly, and returning to Nebraska to coach in my home state makes it even more meaningful."
"Our program will be built on a culture of development rooted in integrity, accountability, and a relentless work ethic," Buschow added. "We'll recruit young men who are passionate about wrestling and committed to becoming better teammates, students, and people every day."
Buschow also served as vice president and co-founder of the Mustang Wrestling Club from 2022-26, helping lead its athletes to state championships, national competition, and All-American honors. Before arriving in Marshall, he spent the 2020-21 academic year as a volunteer wrestling coach at Archbishop Bergan Catholic School in Fremont, Nebraska, where he helped guide three state qualifiers and one state placer.
Outside of coaching, Buschow holds the M1 official rank with USA Wrestling, the organization's highest domestic designation, and carries a Category 3 Referee certification with United World Wrestling, the sport's international governing body. He began his collegiate wrestling career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, before transferring to Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where he closed out his competitive career and earned his bachelor's degree in 2020. He went on to complete a master's degree in education with an emphasis in sports leadership at Southwest Minnesota State University in 2023.
Dylan and his wife, Caitlyn, will relocate to the Lincoln area soon.
