Hill College receives NJCAA grant to launch men's, women's wrestling programs

Hill College has received a $2,000 NJCAA Sport Opportunity grant to fund the addition of men's and women's wrestling programs, the college announced. The NJCAA Foundation has provided Sport Opportunity grants since 2018 to support the addition, growth and sustainability of sports programs at the community college level.

The inaugural wrestling season at Hill College is set for fall 2027, extending into spring 2028. Scholarship opportunities will be available beginning November 2026. Wrestling will become the eighth organized sport at Hill College, adding the 14th and 15th teams to the athletics program and establishing Hill College as one of the first community college wrestling programs in the state.

Scott Tischer, former head wrestling coach at Grapevine High School, is set to lead the program pending board approval. Tischer has guided teams to multiple state championships and was recently named Region 2-5A Coach of the Year.

The Hill College Wrestling Center will be located in the current Student Center at the Hill County Campus, which is undergoing renovation. The new facility will include a state-of-the-art gym, locker rooms, coaches' offices and a three-mat practice and two-mat competition facility with spectator seating.
Hill College wrestlers will compete in dual and tournament competitions against NJCAA community colleges primarily from Texas and Oklahoma, along with programs from Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.
