Wisconsin announces coaching staff changes
Wisconsin wrestling head coach Chris Bono has announced staffing changes within the program, promoting Tony Cassioppi to associate head coach, elevating Garrett Model to assistant coach and adding recent graduate Joe Zargo as a coaching assistant.
Cassioppi joined the Badgers staff as an assistant coach in 2024. A four-time All-American heavyweight at Iowa and U23 World champion at 125 kilograms, Cassioppi was a perennial starter for the Hawkeyes during his collegiate career. He also serves as an assistant coach with the Wisconsin Regional Training Center.
Model transitions to a full-time assistant coaching role after previously serving as a coaching assistant. A multi-year team captain during his playing career at Wisconsin, Model was a two-time NCAA automatic qualifier and finished with 70 career victories. He also coaches alongside Bono and Cassioppi at the Wisconsin Regional Training Center.
Zargo, a 2026 Wisconsin graduate, joins the staff as a coaching assistant after five seasons with the Badgers. A four-time NCAA Championships qualifier, Zargo wrapped up his playing career with a 21-10 record in his final season, going 17-5 in duals.
