Bushnell names Costello first head wrestling coach

Bushnell University has named Dylan Costello as its first Director of Wrestling and head men's wrestling coach, athletic director Corey Anderson announced. Men's and women's wrestling will become the 18th and 19th intercollegiate sports at the Oregon school.

Costello comes to Bushnell after six seasons as an assistant coach at Northwestern College in Iowa, an NAIA wrestling powerhouse. During his tenure at Northwestern, he helped the program send 10 wrestlers to the NAIA National Championships while earning multiple All-GPAC honors. At Northwestern, Costello was responsible for running practices, managing athlete nutrition and facilitating all technique sessions. He also served as an admissions counselor and was heavily involved in recruiting.

A former collegiate wrestler at Northwestern, Costello was a three-time letter winner, a team captain and an NAIA Champion of Character Award winner. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern College and a master's degree in humanities from American Public University.
Costello will officially begin at Bushnell on July 1, with just over a year to recruit and build the program before its first varsity season begins in Fall 2027. He will also assist in the selection and hiring of a head women's wrestling coach.

The addition of wrestling marks the return of collegiate wrestling to the Eugene/Springfield area for the first time in nearly 20 years.
