Benedictine names Mateo head wrestling coach
Benedictine College has named Eric Mateo as head wrestling coach, athletic director Charlie Gartenmayer announced Tuesday.
Mateo comes to Benedictine from Avila University in Kansas City, Mo., where he served as head coach since 2023. During his tenure with the Eagles, Mateo's program produced 29 KCAC placers, seven NAIA national qualifiers and one NAIA All-American, while finishing in the top three at the KCAC Championship. His program averaged above a 3.0 GPA and retained 75 percent of its roster from season to season.
Mateo is a 2015 graduate of the University of Central Missouri with a degree in Safety Management. He competed for the Mules at 133 and 141 pounds and earned an NCAA Division II national qualifier berth as a redshirt sophomore in 2012-13.
