Brus flips commitment from McKendree to Iowa State
Greta Brus, one of Iowa's top high school wrestlers, has flipped her commitment from McKendree to Iowa State, giving the Cyclones a major recruiting win.
Brus announced her commitment on Thursday, becoming the first Iowa native in Iowa State's 2026 recruiting class.
"I'm beyond excited to announce my commitment to Iowa State! Being part of a new program is an incredible opportunity, and I'm grateful to help build something alongside an amazing coaching staff," wrote Brus. "Huge thank you to my Big Game coaches for pushing me and believing in me, and to my family and friends for always having my back. I'm so excited for the future! Roll Clones!"
The decision is particularly notable because she had previously committed to McKendree, the reigning NCAA women's wrestling national champions.
A standout at Davenport Assumption High School, Brus capped her senior season by winning the 2026 Iowa state championship at 155 pounds. She finished the year with a perfect 42-0 record and claimed the Class 1A state title.
Brus also finished as the Iowa state runner-up at 145 pounds in 2024 before reaching the top of the podium two years later. She ended her high school career on a remarkable run, winning 81 of her final 82 matches.
She captured the 2026 Iowa junior freestyle title at 155 pounds. She also earned national recognition with a third-place finish in Fargo and a fourth-place finish at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals.
Brus' commitment is the latest addition to a rapidly growing Iowa State roster. The news came the same day the Cyclones announced the signing of Arizona standout Brooklyn Perez, who had previously committed to William Penn University.
Iowa State has also added Campbellsville transfer Makennah Craft, who recently announced on Instagram that she will continue her career in Ames. In addition, the Cyclones secured commitments from Piper Fowler and Christianah Ogunsanya, both NAIA national champions transferring from William Penn.
The recent additions highlight the momentum Iowa State is building under head coach Alli St. John. By landing proven college talent through the transfer portal and highly accomplished recruits such as Brus and Perez, the Cyclones continue to strengthen a roster that appears poised to compete at a high level in the coming years.
For Iowa State, securing Brus is particularly significant. Not only is she one of the state's most accomplished recruits, but flipping a wrestler previously committed to the inaugural NCAA team champion underscores the program's growing national presence on the recruiting trail.
