Thompson commits to Iowa State

Iowa State has landed its first commitment in the Brent Metcalf era.

On Saturday, Brayden Thompson announced that he is transferring to Iowa State. He started his college wrestling career at Oklahoma State.

"Honored to announce that I will be continuing my academic and wrestling career at Iowa State University," wrote Thompson on social media. "Thankful for my family, friends, and coaches who got me to this point."

Thompson was one of the nation's top recruits in the Class of 2023. He was a member of the 2022 U20 world team in freestyle. The Illinois native qualified for the NCAAs as a true freshman at 174 in 2024. Thompson redshirted in his second season in Stillwater, compiling a 9-0 record at 184 pounds and winning titles at the Bob Smith Open and the Reno Tournament of Champions.

He did not wrestle at matches this past season.
