Batsuuri announced as 2025 NJCAA Men's Wrestler of the Year

The Open Mat presents awards annually in three categories for each division of college wrestling at the conclusion of the season. Awards are presented for Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year and Wrestler of the Year.

Otgonbayar Batsuuri of Fort Hays Tech Northwest repeated as NJCAA national champion at 174 pounds and was undefeated against NJCAA competition this season.

On Monday, Batsuuri was announced as the 2025 NJCAA Men's Wrestler of the Year by The Open Mat.

The Mongolia native won tournament titles this season at the Mines Rookie Open and Younes Hospitality Open.

Batsuuri went 3-0 South Central District Championships en route to winning the district title. Two of his wins came over wrestlers ranked in the top 10.

He entered the NJCAA Men's Wrestling Championships as the top seed and overwhelming favorite to repeat at 174 pounds. Batsuuri not only won his second national championship but did so in dominant fashion. He went 5-0 and scored bonus-point victories in all five of his wins. In the finals, Batsuuri won 14-1 over Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady of Indian Hills. He was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the event.
