Ragland returns to Averett as assistant coach

DANVILLE, Va. -- Averett University men's wrestling head coach Blake Roulo announced the addition of former Cougar Trent Ragland '22 to his staff as an assistant coach on Monday.

A 2024 NCAA national qualifier, Ragland won the 2024 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship at heavyweight while finishing as the runner-up in the region. As a senior, he went 21-9 and earned ODAC Wrestler of the Week once and was named Averett's Senior Male Athlete of the Year at Night of Champions. Throughout his career, Ragland went 87-26 with 39 career pins, nine major decisions and 29 decisions. His 87 career victories ranked fourth all-time in program history when he finished his career. He was ranked regionally and nationally consistently, and reached as high as No. 9 in the country in his weight class. A four-year starter and two-time region placer, Ragland won multiple tournament championships during regular season action after transferring to Averett from Division I Virginia Tech.

Ragland was a four-year starter at New Kent High School, where he was a three-time state placer, including being a two-time VHSL Class 3 state champion. He also finished third in the 2016 Fargo Greco-Roman, third in the 2017 Beast of the East and second at the 2018 Escape the Rock.

A native of Quinton, Virginia, Ragland earned his bachelor's degree from Averett in 2022. He's currently pursuing his master's degree in business administration from Averett.
