
Seeds released for SoCon Wrestling Championships
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference has released the seeds for the 2024 SoCon Wrestling Championship, the league office announced Wednesday. The championship is set to take place Saturday, March 9, at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, North Carolina. Eight squads will compete for the 2024 SoCon title with 14 NCAA allocations available for the NCAA Championships.
The SoCon earned three NCAA allocations at 133 pounds and two NCAA allocations each at 149 pounds and 165 pounds. The remaining weight classes earned one allocation each, which is the automatic qualifier for the conference tournament champion.
App State seeks to defend its tournament title from a season ago under head coach JohnMark Bentley. The Mountaineers finished the season second in the conference regular-season standings with their only loss coming to Campbell on Feb. 2. Campbell finished first in the conference standings, concluding the campaign with an 8-0 conference record and 14-3 overall.
Chattanooga's Brayden Palmer (125), App State's Tommy Askey (157) and Campbell's Caleb Hopkins (184), Levi Hopkins (197) and Taye Ghadiali (285). Plamer, who was the 2023 SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler, won the individual title at 133 pounds a season ago.
Campbell leads the league with six No. 1 seeds entering the SoCon Championship. App State holds three No. 1 seeds and Chattanooga owns the other No. 1 spot.
Eight SoCon wrestling teams will compete at the 2024 SoCon Wrestling Championships in Boone, North Carolina, on Saturday, March 9. A clear-bag policy will be in effect at the Holmes Convocation Center. The championship will be streamed in its entirety on ESPN+.
