Ohio takes down Drexel
VINCENT, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team defeated Drexel 21-13 on Saturday night (Dec. 16) to move to 3-1 overall.
"We had a couple get away from us, but I think any time you can wrestle after finals week and get a win is good. These guys had a pretty tough week and it was a pretty good match," head coach Joel Greenlee said.
The Bobcats had to overcome a deficit to earn the win after they lost the first three weight classes. Sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.) earned the Bobcats' first win of the day with a 10-2 major decision over Dom Findora in the 149-pound class. Raike's win moved him to 2-1 in duals and 13-6 overall this season.
Ohio added to its total in the 157-pound class. Redshirt sophomore No. 14 Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) dazzled in front of his hometown crowd with a 12-0 major decision over Tyler Williams, including a near fall, to remain undefeated in dual-meets. Kellar is 10-2 overall so far.
Redshirt sophomore No. 10 Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) continued the trend with a 4-0 decision in the 165-pound class to give Ohio the lead. Thompson issued No. 31 Cody Walsh his first dual loss of the season for his 17th win of the season.
The Bobcats turned to freshman Max Ray (Tiffin, Ohio) in the 184-pound class to anchor the dual. His 8-2 decision over Natty Lapinski reinforced the Bobcats' one-point lead and opened the door for them to take the win.
"I thought he did great," Greenlee said. "It was his first time in a varsity singlet. He got called into action late last night, made weight, did everything he had to to and got the win."
Senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) closed out the dual with his sixth win of the season in the 285-pound class. He defeated Santino Morina to the tune of an 8-0 major decision to officially lift the Bobcats over the Dragons.
Ohio will be back in action on Dec. 21 to take on Gardner-Webb in Boling Springs, North Carolina, at 6 p.m. The meet will be streamed on FloWrestling.
