Central rolls to 36-9 victory over Augustana (Ill.)
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Starting the dual with three bonus-point wins was enough for the Central College men's wrestling team to roll to a 36-9 win over Augustana College (Ill.) Thursday night.
Central (5-1) started with back-to-back technical fall victories from David Vukobratovich (sophomore, 125 pounds, Homer Glen, Ill., Lockport Township HS) and Brock Beck (senior, 133 pounds, Grinnell) before Pierre Baldwin (sophomore, Carol Stream, Ill., West Chicago HS) added pin at 141 pounds to launch the Dutch to a 16-0.
"They all got to their offense and it got the momentum headed in the right direction," coach Eric Van Kley said. "It really carried us through the night."
After a pair of losses, Lincoln Holub (sophomore, Mount Vernon, Lisobn HS) righted the ship at 165 pounds for Central with a first-period fall. Austin Roos (junior, Atkins, Benton HS) continued the run with a 17-2 technical fall at 174 pounds
"Lincoln got us a big pin his varsity dual debut," Van Kley said.
Samuel West (sophomore, Burlington, Notre Dame HS), Gage Linahon (senior, Newton) and Hayden Hearne (sophomore, Urbandale) were victorious by decision at 184, 197 and 285 pounds, respectively.
"You always feel good about Gage at 197 and Hayden has had a solid season for us at 285," Van Kley.
Central travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the MSOE Invitational Saturday. The action starts at 9 a.m.
