UW-Stevens Point tops UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team earned a 40-18 victory at UW-Oshkosh on Thursday in the conference opener for the Pointers.

Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) picked up wins by forfeit at 125 and 133, respectively, as the Pointers began with a 12-0 lead.

At 149, Sammy Nelson (Blanchardville, Wis./Pecatonica) won a 16-5 major decision as UWSP extended the lead to 16-6.

Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) earned a third period fall at 165 after leading by a 14-0 score in the closing seconds to ultimately secure the dual victory. Cody Weix (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) won by forfeit at 174 and the advantage was 28-12.

Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) and Logan Neitzel (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) both earned first period falls at 184 and 197, respectively as UWSP took a 40-12 lead.

The Pointers return to action on Tuesday (Dec. 5) with a 7:00 p.m. home dual against UW-Platteville.
