The Open Mat NJCAA Women's Wrestler of the Year: Victoria Baez Dilone (Umpqua)
Umpqua's Victoria Baez Dilone, a native of Madrid, Spain, dominated her competition in the NJCAA all season long. She won titles at the Mountaineer Open and Mike Clock Women's Open and was unbeaten in the division. The lone blemish on her record this season was a two-point loss to two-time NAIA national champion Lexie Basham of Texas Wesleyan at the Missouri Valley Open in November. After winning the Women's Junior College National Championship title at 130 pounds in 2022 as a freshman, Baez claimed a championship this year at the first-ever NJCAA Women's Wrestling Invitational in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She cruised to the title at 130 pounds with four technical falls in four matches without surrendering a single point throughout the tournament. Her individual title helped Umpqua finish runner-up in the team standings. Baez has been successful on the international wrestling stage while competing for Spain. She placed fifth at the U23 European Championships in 2021 and 2022. Baez has also been successful in beach wrestling, earning medals in Beach Wrestling World Series events.
