Bond named head wrestling coach at Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. -- The Truett McConnell University athletic department is proud to announce the addition of Cody Bond as the new head wresting coach.

"We are thrilled about the addition of Cody to our TMU family," says Vice President for Athletics Jenni Shepard. "The wrestling pedigree that he brings with him is one that will immediately impact our program. From his high-school state championships, DI NCAA conference championships, national rankings, national tournament appearances and all-american status, I know he will use all that experience to lead and guide our program to success on the mat. Please join me in welcoming Coach Bond to the TMU Bear Family!"

Bond joins the TMU family after wrestling at Appalachian State University for seven years, where he earned his spot as a four-year starter in the 149 and 157 weight classes.

The Madison County native is a two-time NCAA National Championships qualifier, along with qualifying a third time in his career as an alternate. After finishing 2-2 at the 2024 championships, Bond was ranked in the top 16 in the nation.

Bond is an NCAA Academic All-American and has received an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education, while currently pursuing his masters in Higher Education: Concentration in Leadership, which he will complete in May of 2024.

Truett McConnell Athletics would like to thank Head Coach Patrick James for all his hard work and dedication to the TMU wrestling program. Coach James has made a huge impact on the university in his six years at TMU, as seen by the several national qualifiers, being named the 2022-23 AAC Coach of Character and most importantly the spiritual influence he has had on every one of his athletes.

Shepard concludes by saying, "I want to publicly thank Coach James for his tireless efforts during his time at TMU and for his assistance in finding the next coach to lead our program. Coach James did a phenomenal job during his tenure, and I know that Coach Bond will continue to build upon the foundation that has been established regarding biblical principles and discipleship, culture, academics, servant leadership and athletic performance. As always, Go Bears!"
